Undergraduate Social Work Admissions

A strong foundation focused on knowledge, values and skills

Our undergraduate social work program prepares you for a generalist social work practice in the complex and varied social welfare and human services fields. Though freshmen and sophomores may declare social work as their major, the social work program actually begins during the junior year. You may apply during the spring semester of your sophomore year, following the advice of the program director and your faculty adviser.

How to Apply

Start by completing an application to Adelphi.

Next, ensure that you’ve met all criteria for admission to the upper-level program, which includes:

  • 60 approved college credits, with a concentration in the liberal arts
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Demonstrated motivation and capacity to work with people
  • Personal values congruent with the National Association of Social Work (NASW) Code of Ethics
  • Experience in human services (highly desirable)
  • Two professional or academic references
  • A personal essay outlining your interest in social work
  • An interview with the BSW program director may be necessary*
