The Writing Center

Effective writing is a key component of nearly every discipline.

The Adelphi University Writing Center helps graduate and undergraduate students develop stronger writing skills for every ability level. Common topics of focus include:

  • writing with clarity
  • developing a sophisticated argument
  • deepening your analyses
  • deciding on organization and structure
  • improving style
  • understanding rhetorical techniques
  • incorporating and citing sources
  • correcting grammar

Through the Writing Center, you’ll also have access to:

  • a computer lab and printer
  • a library of helpful references
  • writing workshops

Tutoring services are free and last from 45 to 60 minutes. You can sign up for an appointment by registering online, or by coming into the Writing Center. You can schedule one appointment or reserve a standing weekly or biweekly appointment for a whole term. You can bring in a full draft, an outline, or just a set of notes—our tutors will help you move to the next stage in your writing process. Please note that the Writing Center is not a proofreading service, but we can help you learn to proofread and revise your own essay.

To cancel or reschedule an appointment, please call the Writing Center or cancel online. Anyone who fails to cancel an appointment in advance will receive a “no show” notification. Students who receive two “no shows” will forfeit access to Writing Center services for the remainder of that semester.
