The School of Social Work offers a variety of tuition assistance to help defray the cost of undergraduate and graduate study. These include:
- scholarships
- graduate assistantships
- agency tuition remission (from social agencies that provide placement and mentorship to social work students at Adelphi University)
The Office of Student Financial Services has additional information on Adelphi scholarships and federal and state loan programs. To determine financial need, students are required to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The Scholarship Committee will consider the combination of financial need and prior academic performance in determining the recipients of these awards.

Memorial Scholarships
The Rita Paprin Memorial Scholarship
In 1983, the family and friends of Rita Paprin, professor of social work, established a scholarship in her memory in recognition of her lifelong commitment to changing social policy.
The Rita Paprin Memorial Scholarship is awarded to current B.S.W., M.S.W., and Ph.D. students who demonstrate their dedication to social policy development and social change through their work in the community or in their place of employment.
To qualify, students must have completed at least 12 credits and demonstrate financial need.
The Elizabeth A. Doherty Memorial Scholarship
In honor of Elizabeth A. Doherty, alumna and adjunct professor, this scholarship is awarded only to students who demonstrate a commitment to women's issues and have succeeded in overcoming adversity. This memorial scholarship was established by Kathleen J. Esposito in 2001 to recognize her sister's lifetime commitment to social work, counseling, and assistance to those in need.

How to Apply
To apply for any of the above scholarships, forward the completed scholarship application form, essay and two faculty recommendations should be forwarded to Marcia Edwards, coordinator of graduate admission, School of Social Work, Room 219. For more information, contact her at 516.877.4384 or by email at edwards2@adelphi.edu.

Graduate Assistantships
A limited number of graduate assistantships are available in which a student assists a professor in an administrative or research capacity. Assistantship money is applied directly to the student's tuition. The tuition remission for 90 hours of work as a graduate assistant is equivalent to one, three-credit course per semester. For 30 and 60 hours of work, assistants are granted one and two points of tuition remission, respectively.
To apply for a graduate assistantship, students should bring their resume along with a letter explaining their interest in being a graduate assistant to Lois Silverman, School of Social Work, Room 205. For more information, contact her at 516.877.4383 or by email at silverma@adelphi.edu.

Agency Tuition Remission
Students working for a social work agency affiliated with the School’s field education program may be eligible for agency tuition remission. To qualify the agency must designate accrued tuition remission credits to the employee consistent with the University's policy for agency tuition remission.
