SWK 737: Social Work Practice With Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual And Transgendered Persons 3 credits This course provides an overview of issues relevant to social work practice with gay men, lesbians, and significant people in their lives. Topics include societal context, discrimination and homophobia, the history of psychiatric diagnosis and homosexuality, the 'coming out' process and its impact on the self and family members, gay and lesbian parenting, and working with people with AIDS and chemical dependency.
