As the human life span grows longer there are more aging adults within society than ever before. In this training, myths and assumptive generalizations associated with aging will be examined and discussed.  Discrimination and stigma attached to older adults will be investigated in order to better understand personal biases.  Addiction issues relative to this population will be explored and means of integrating the multiple difficulties of the aging process into addiction assessment and treatment will be presented.

About the Instructor:
Mary Alice Orito, LCSW, CASAC, NCACI, CRS worked for Beth Israel Medical Center / Stuyvesant Square for twenty years as a counselor, supervisor and manager of their Outpatient Chemical Dependency Service.  She has served as panelist for the SAMHSA, CSAT-Tip #34, Brief Intervention and Brief Therapies for Substance Abuse. She has been a field instructor for New York University, Fordham and Adelphi Schools of Social Work and authored a variety of articles addressing assessment of chemical dependency in women.

Credentialing Information: Program information has been submitted for approval to the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services Education and Training for 6 training credits toward earning or recredentialing the CASAC.

Continuing Education Credits: 6 Continuing Education Credits will be given through the New York State Chapter of the NASW. Certificates of Attendance will be issued day of program.
