This workshop will present a framework for providing treatment for co-occurring disorders that understands the complexities involved. Identifying the four classifications of mental health disorders most commonly associated with chemical dependency, concerns associated with addressing the co-morbidity, barriers to treatment, appropriate treatment venues and strategies regarding medication and abstinence will be explored. Examples from clinical practice will be presented and interventions examined through case presentations.
About the Instructor:
Nicholas R. Lessa, MA, LCSW, CSAC, has been a leader, trainer, and innovator in the field of chemical dependency treatment for 25 years. He is currently a managing partner and CEO of Inter-Care, a private outpatient substance abuse clinic in Manhattan. He has co-authored the book, Wiley Concise Guide to Mental Health: Substance Use Disorders.
Mr. Lessa also trained to use and teach motivational interviewing with its developers William Miller, PhD and Stephen Rollnick, PhD.

Credentialing Information: Program information has been submitted for approval to the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services Education and Training for 6 training credits toward earning or recredentialing the CASAC.
Continuing Education Credits: 6 Continuing Education Credits will be given through the New York State Chapter of the NASW. Certificates of Attendance will be issued day of program.
