Play is the most natural form of self-expression in children.  This workshop will present an overview of the therapeutic properties of play with a specific focus on cognitive-behavioral play therapy.  The application of this goal-oriented, structured approach to clinical work with children, as well as adolescents, will be discussed.  Specific cognitive-behavioral play therapy techniques, play materials, and the role of the clinician will be illustrated through the use of case material and participant involvement.

About the Instructor:
Kathryn Chernack, DSW, LCSW-R, has worked with children and their families as a clinician, supervisor, and administrator for over 25 years.  She has taught social work with children and adolescents in the MSW program at Adelphi University and has presented numerous workshops on social work practice with children.  Dr. Chernack is the former director of social work at Queens Children’s Psychiatric Center and is now involved with quality management in the therapeutic foster care program at SCO Family of Services. She currently maintains a private practice in Garden City.

Credentialing Information: Program information has been submitted for approval to the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services Education and Training for 6 training credits toward earning or recredentialing the CASAC.

Continuing Education Credits: 6 Continuing Education Credits will be given through the New York State Chapter of the NASW. Certificates of Attendance will be issued day of program.
