Evidence-based practices have been developed for various clinical disciplines, providing standardized treatment and interventions based on research and outcome evidence. Dr. Shriver’s presentation will trace the history and development of Evidence-based Practice (EBP) and consider its application in social work practice. A faculty panel will discuss implementation of EBP for social work in health care, aging, mental health and addictions.
Attendees will understand what Evidenced-based Practice is, why it is important, how to use EBP in their work.
Participants will be able to:
- Understand the concept of Evidence-based Practice in clinical practice
- Understand why EBP is important and how to use it in work with clients
- Understand where to find EBPs as relates to social work practice.
About the Presenter:
Kren K. Shriver, MPH, MD is the Director of Clinical Services at Hudson River Psychiatric Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. Dr. Shriver received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Johns Hopkins University, his Masters of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, and his Doctorate in Medicine from Saint Louis University Medical School. He completed his residency in Adult Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident, and is Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry.
Upon completion of his residency in 1991, Dr. Shriver worked at Elmhurst Hospital Medical Center, initially as Medical Director of the Mobile Crisis Team, then as Director of the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP). In addition to his position at HRPC, Dr. Shriver serves as a member on both the OMH Clinical Subcabinet and the Rational Pharmacotherapy of Schizophrenia Steering Committee. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at New York Medical College, and participated as a member of two Expert Consensus Panels to develop guidelines for the Treatment of Behavioral Emergencies.

Credentialing Information: Program information has been submitted for approval to the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services Education and Training for 6 training credits toward earning or recredentialing the CASAC.
Continuing Education Credits: 6 Continuing Education Credits will be given through the New York State Chapter of the NASW. Certificates of Attendance will be issued day of program.
