Substance Abuse in Children and Adolescents: Signs and Symptoms

This workshop will focus on child and adolescent substance use and abuse. The instructor will identify current trends including the use of heroin, designer drugs, inhalants, and psychedelics. Characteristic behavioral changes seen when there is substance use in children and adolescents will be examined. Various approaches to implementation of prevention and treatment strategies will also be discussed. An emphasis will be placed on identifying resources and educational information that can be shared with both parents and clinicians working in prevention and treatment with this population.

About the Instructor:
Michael Katz
M.Ed., LCSW is a dynamic counselor, coach, and educator. Using multimedia training materials with clients in personal coaching situations, “in-service-training” workshops, and in “Training of Trainers” programs, he brings his warmth and sense of humor to workshops and training programs at local, county, state, and national levels. Mr. Katz is a visiting part-time lecturer and workshop presenter for Rutgers University, Graduate School of Social Work.

Credentialing Information: Program information has been submitted for approval to the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services Education and Training for 6 training credits toward earning or recredentialing the CASAC.

Continuing Education Credits: 6 Continuing Education Credits will be given through the New York State Chapter of the NASW. Certificates of Attendance will be issued day of program.
