Trauma Studies program is designed and taught by leading clinicians and researchers in the trauma field. This intensive training program is designed for the experienced clinician to develop and build solid clinical skills around the area of trauma. In our current climate, we are seeing more and more people impacted by various forms of trauma. This program will orient clinicians to effective and evidence-based practices appropriate for a number of different populations.

Program Objective
- Improve clinical practice in working with traumatized individuals and families
- Learn treatment approaches and the theories behind them
- Understand dynamics of trauma treatment within various populations
- Learn the style of using a phase-related approach to treatment for survivors of trauma
- Develop a context for understanding the numerous levels of impact that trauma carries
- Create a framework for understanding clients’ experiences from a trauma-informed perspective
- Train practitioners in evidence-based practices that will help start or support the healing process from traumatic experiences

Program Components
Participants must attend 24 seminars and 5 workshops
Core Seminars: The Core Seminar is an ongoing course that focuses on various theories of trauma treatment as well as many aspects of assessment, diagnosis and treatment. The Core Seminar will be taught by a lead instructor and a team of additional instructors
Integrative Seminars: The Integrative Seminar is ian ongoing case conference/consultation that immediately follows the Core Seminar and is led by a senior clinician. Participants will bring case material from their own practice experience to help understand and synthesize the knowledge gained throughout the program.
The Core/Integrative Seminars will meet as one class on Tuesday evenings for three hours approximately two - three times a month from September through June

Admission Requirements
- Proof of degree, i.e., copy of transcript or diploma from an advanced degree program in social work, mental health, or another human services discipline
- Current résumé
- 2 letters of recommendation from a supervisor or colleague who is familiar with your work
- Personal statement

Certificate Requirements
The Certificate of Completion will be awarded at the end of the program. There are 24 three-hour evening sessions and 5 full-day trainings (6 hours each)

About the Seminar Faculty
Linda Reilly M.ED., M.S.W. is a licensed clinical social worker. She was the Coordinator of the Kantor Bereavement and Trauma Center at North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center where her practice focused on the treatment of traumatized children and their families including the victims of abuse, violence, and survivors of suicide. She has received trauma specific training at the Justice Institute in Boston and National Institute for the Psychotherapies (NIP) in NYC. She completed NY State OMH Trauma Focused CBT, and is a trained EMDR practitioner.
Michael DeFalco, Psy.D. is the Program Director of Adult Services at the Holliswood Hospital and Director of their Recovery From Traumatic Stress and Military Wellness Programs. Dr. DeFalco is also Director of Military Services for the Liberty Homeland Support Network. Dr.DeFalco has worked for over ten years providing treatment and development treatment programs for children and adults affected by traumatic stress, depression and other mental health issues.
Sandy Wolkoff
Sandra Radzanower Wolkoff is a licensed clinical social and currently a doctoral candidate at Adelphi University. She is Director of the Marks Family Right from the Start 0-3+ Center of North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center where she also directs Training and Consultation Services.
Ms. Wolkoff, editor of two books and author of over a dozen articles, has just completed her Fellowship for Leaders of the 21st Century at the National Center of Infants, Toddlers and their Families, Zero to Three, in Washington D.C. She has presented nationally on clinical issues related to maternal depression and infant attachment as well as professional development for practitioners.
Tricia Joyce, D.S.W. is an Associate Professor at Adelphi University School of Social Work. She received her B.A. from St. John’s College, and her M.S.W. and D.S.W. degrees from Hunter College School of Social Work/CUNY. Dr. Joyce has published and presented her work both nationally and internationally, and her fields of expertise include child sexual abuse, trauma, group work, and mental health. She has worked in a child abuse treatment program and inpatient psychiatric units with children, adolescents, and their families. Her additional interests include mothers of sexually abused children, psychoanalytic theory, professionals’ constructions of clients, intergenerational aspects of trauma, and the social process of treatment planning in agency practice.
Peter D’Amico Ph.D. ABPP is a child and family Psychologist. Dr. D'Amico is the Director of Child and Adolescent Psychology at Schneider Children’s & Zucker Hillside Hospitals and the Alliance for School Mental Health. He is an Associate Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Director of Child Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Dr. D'Amico has obtained specialty board certification in Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology and his research interests are in the area of disseminating evidence based treatments for children, adolescents and families, both internalizing and externalizing treatments.
Tara Bulin L.C.S.W. is the clinical coordinator for the Recovery From Traumatic Stress Program at The Holliswood Hospital. Ms. Bulin has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and adults recovering from the effects of traumatic stress. She utilizes evidenced based practice techniques in her treatment with individuals afflicted with posttraumatic stress disorder and other issues related to complex trauma. She is a doctoral candidate at the Adelphi University School of Social Work and is currently working on her doctoral dissertation on the subject of complex trauma and posttraumatic growth. She is also an adjunct professor in the Master of Social Work Program at Adelphi University, and she has a strong background in research design, methodology, and implementation. Ms. Bulin maintains an active private practice in Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties.
Mark Dworkin, LCSW has practiced EMDR since 1993. He began working with traumatized veterans in 1975 while working for the Bronx VA Medical Center, he now specializes in treating survivors of chronic relational trauma. He is an EMDR Institute Facilitator. He is the author of EMDR and the Relational Imperative: “The Therapeutic Relationship in EMDR Treatment”.
Roni Berger Ph.D. LCSW was born and raised in Israel. She holds a BSW, MSW and Ph.D. frm the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a Diploma in Psychotherapy from Tel Aviv Medical School. Dr. Berger serves as a Professor at Adelphi University, a consultant to various organizations and holds a private practice. Her field of expertise include families, specifically stepfamilies and non-traditional families, immigrants, posttraumatic growth and group work.
