Adelphi's Post Graduate Certificate in Addictions Treatment is an intensive training program designed for the experienced clinician. Responding to the recent emphasis on co-occurring disorders and the challenges of working with complex clients, this certificate program provides an integrated and sophisticated approach to understanding theoretical perspectives, treatment approaches and the cutting-edge evidenced based knowledge that is essential for effective addictions screening, assessment, and treatment. The program focuses on working with a variety of client populations including individual adults, adolescents and children. as well as families. Who Should Attend
- MSW graduates or other clinicians who have completed an advanced degree in a related human service profession.
- Clinicians who are currently working in the Addictions field.
- Clinicians who are currently working in a related field and want to inform their practice with new, sophisticated knowledge.

Program Components
Core Seminar: The Core seminar is an ongoing course that focuses on various theories of addiction as well as many aspects of assessment, diagnosis and treatment. The Core seminar will be taught by a lead instructor and team of 4 additional instructors who are experts in addiction treatment from the Long Island area.
Integrative Seminar: The integrative seminar is an ongoing case conference/consultation that immediately follows the core seminar and is led by a senior clinician. Participants will bring case material from their own practice experience to help understand and synthesize the knowledge gained throughout the program.
The Core/Integrative Seminars will meet as one class on Tuesday evenings for 3 hours approximately twice a month from October through June (16 sessions for the year)
Required Workshops: Training on a variety of relevant topics will be offered. There will be 8 required workshops for the program. The Instructors for the workshops are "Visiting Faculty" and will coming here from outside the Long Island area.

Admission Requirements:
- Proof of degree, i.e. copy of transcript or diploma from and advanced degree program in social work, mental health or another human services discipline
- Current resume
- Letter of Recommendation from a supervisor or colleague who is familiar with your work
- Brief statement on what you hope to gain from the program

Certificate Requirements:
The Certificate will be awarded at the end of the program. There are sixteen-three hour evening sessions and 8 full day trainings (six hours each) There are 96 continuing education/training hours.

Core/Integrative Seminar: ($600 per semester) $1200.00
8 Workshops: (discounted price for participants $95 per workshop) $760.00
Total: $1960.00 to be paid in two installments

About the Core Seminar Faculty:
Mary Lou Jones MSW, DSW is the Executive Director of South Shore Child Guidance Center, working in both the addiction and mental health fields for over 25 years. She completed an extensive training program on the treatment of Sexual Abuse at Columbia University. Dr. Jones is on the Health and Welfare Council Board of Long Island, is Chair of the Coalition on Voluntary Mental Health Agencies in Nassau County and is President of the Agency Executive Council Board of the United Way of Long Island.
Susanne Smoller L-RCSW, CASAC, CPP, ACSW, is an independent organizational consultant specializing in substance abuse and HIV/AIDS. She has held positions as a line worker, program director, case manager, crime victim advocate, teacher and trainer. Ms. Smoller has consulted on research grants and provided technical assistance and consultation for federal grantees on program sustainability and staff training needs. Ms. Smoller was named Social Worker of the year in 1998 by the Suffolk division of the National Association of Social Work.
Leslie Temme, LCSW, has held a variety of positions in the chemical dependency field for 18 years. She has served as a clinician, family therapist, and clinical supervisor and is currently the director of an outpatient treatment program on Long Island serving adults, adolescents and families. She has been faculty for several addiction certificate programs, teaching clinical skills and training addictions providers for 15 years. She is currently finishing her PhD. in Social Work, focusing on issues related to addiction, relapse and relapse prevention.
Kevin Wadalavage II, MA, LMHC., CASAC., MAC., NCAC is the Vice President of Outreach Project and has worked in the substance abuse field since 1981 as a counselor, program director, trainer and administrator. He currently oversees two outpatient clinics in NYC and is extensively involved in training substance abuse clinicians at Outreach Training Institute. He is a board member of the Institute for Professional Development in the Addictions and has participated on substance abuse advisory committees at both State and local levels.

Credentialing Information and Continuing Education
The Program is a total of 96 continuing education/training hours.
Social work CEU's are given through the New York State Chapter of the NASW.
CASAC training hours: Program information has been for approved by the New York State Office of Addiction and Substance Abuse Services Education and Training for credits/hours toward earning or recredentialing.
Psychology CE credits: Adelphi University is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education credits for psychologists. Adelphi University maintains responsibility for the program and its content. To apply for CE credits, contact Ms. Marge Burgard at 516.877.4835 and present your Certificate of Attendance. There is a $10 processing charge. Attendance at the entire conference is required. No partial credit is given.
Nursing Contact Hours: Adelphi University School of Nursing is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the New York State Nurses Association's Council on Continuing education in Nursing by the American Nurses Credential Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Education Hours/credits: May be received at the discretion of your school.
