A diverse group of Adelphi faculty, staff and students gathered to discuss recent civil unrest as part of an ongoing initiative.

Laura Quiros, Ph.D.Quiros_News_Item, has long been dedicated to advancing multiculturalism and inclusion at Adelphi and in the New York City social services community. In her research, she looks at how personal trauma is linked to race and identity.

Dr. Quiros, who serves as associate dean for academic affairs in the School of Social Work and was recently named director of the M.S.W. program, has been spurred in recent months to address the effects of racism and to brainstorm healing social actions. With Schanica Pickens, student affairs coordinator, she has initiated an ongoing, on-campus discussion on civic unrest and the recent tragedies in Louisiana, Minnesota and Texas.

Learn how Dr. Quiros teases out the sociopolitical roots of trauma.
