Advanced Trauma Studies and Treatment

Help the severely traumatized with our trauma counseling certificate.

Thank you for your interest in our Postgraduate Certificate Program in Trauma.

Our lead faculty has stepped down from the position prior to the onset of our intended start date of October 2016. We are therefore taking the time, while we search for a new lead instructor, to update our program to meet the increasingly complex needs of our applicants and the changing nature of current evidence-based practices in the field of trauma.

We have therefore decided to temporarily delay the start date with an intention of resuming the offering of the program beginning in the Fall 2017 semester. We are certain that our program will reflect the most current theories and practices that will enhance the delivery of trauma services to our client populations.

We appreciate your patience and will keep your applications and inquiries on file. We will notify you once we are ready to resume this most valuable training.

Unfortunately, trauma is a part of most of our lives. Social workers, psychologists, nurses, pastoral counselors, emergency workers, military personnel and other professionals are often called upon to help meet the multiple challenges presented in coping with PTSD and the multiple impact of trauma.

Under the leadership of the lead faculty and guest lecturers, the Adelphi University Postgraduate Certificate in Trauma Studies and Treatment is a two-semester course (84 hours and 25 NYSED continuing education credits) designed for the experienced practitioner to engage in a small supportive and reflective community to advance their skills and competences related to the role of trauma in practice settings.

This program meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:30pm for 17 classes from October 14, 2015 through April 20, 2016.

Highlights included in cost are hands-on skills training, Friday workshops and intensive trainings in evidence-based treatment approaches such as:

  • Self-Injury: A cutting edge approach to assessment
  • The Community Reinforcement Approach and Family Training (CRAFT) – 2 day training
  • Trauma Focused-CBT Training- 2 day training
  • The Safe Center Site Visit
  • Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
  • Seeking Safety

Attendance to all classes is required to receive the postgraduate certificate in trauma. In the event that your absence is unavoidable, please notify the instructor prior to the class being missed.  Students missing 3 or more classes will need to make up the missing hours in order to qualify for completion of the postgraduate certificate.
